Field Trip to GPO Std 4 – Gaining practical knowledge
The General Post Office at Fort, Mumbai is a huge heritage structure. I was most impressed by the Philately Department. There were stamps of Children’s Day, Science and Technology, Sports and Games,Transport etc.We were told that there are stamps depicting the famous vada pav and modaks of Mumbai. The Savings Bank ,Railway Reservation, Aadhaar Enrolment Counters, the Sorting Department were eye openers.
We read that the work on the building began in 1903 and was completed in 1913 at a total cost of Rs. 18,09,000.
This was a very enjoyable and enriching field trip

Outside the GPO we saw many mail vans and loading and unloading of mail and parcels.
Inside we saw many counters. We learnt about stamps in the philately department.
We posted letters at the GPO. I enjoyed the field trip.
