-Arnav Jadhav (Student and Nature Club enthusiast from IX E)
The session on e-waste was held on September 13, 2019 at Don Bosco High School, Mumbai.
It was conducted Mr. Ashish Pandey from Ecoreco (ECORE CYCLING LIMITED), a government organization that gathers e-waste from Mumbai and Pune. It turned out to be an eye-opener about e-waste and its disposal. It is sad to know that India is the 5th biggest waste generator in the world and 3rd Biggest in Asia. As per UN report, India will generate 20 million MT of e-waste in 2020. The need for growing Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) gave a vision for the inception of e-waste Industry in India.
This session aimed to make more students conscious about e-waste and its disposal. It highlighted the importance of proper recycling. The talk ended with a Q&A session where Mr. Pandey said “You are the future of India and you need to spread the awareness about the e-waste and its correct disposal. Try giving it to an organized recycling centre and not to the scrap merchants and the kabadiwalas”.
